Weyerhauser helps local children struggling with food insecurity (cont...)
The Weyerhaeuser Giving Fund supports U.S. and Canadian communities where the company has significant presence or business interest. These communities range from rural to metropolitan, each with unique priorities and needs. Weyerhaeuser employees serve on local advisory committees for the Giving Fund and develop funding priorities within four focus areas to support their particular communities. This provides a strong company-wide framework for giving while allowing flexibility to meet unique needs in different communities.
“Partnerships with local business that have community-minded volunteers helps provide our manpower” said Ted Thompson. “Getting a grant to help fund our program doubles the impact Weyerhauser has made at Project HOPE Food Bank.”
“As part of the grant committee, I am focused on making an important impact throughout our community” said Richard Stich, Environmental Affairs Manager for Weyerhauser in Hot Springs, Arkansas. “This grant fits our priorities.”
The School Backpack Program was established at the request of teachers and counselors. The food is provided to the schools in an effort to promote health and well-being for children with hunger issues. The program has distributed approximately 300,000 pounds of food in the last 3 years to 11 area school districts. Helping children to succeed through alleviating hunger is the main focus of the School Backpack Program.
