Walmart State Giving Foundation Partners with Project HOPE Food Bank to serve seniors
The grant was presented to Ted Thompson during a check presentation ceremony held today at Project HOPE Food Bank. Community partners that assist in the distribution of the food boxes were on hand to commemorate this exciting event. Presenting the check to Ted Thompson was Michael Lindsey, Director Walmart Public Affairs.
“At the Walmart Foundation, we understand that organizations such as Project HOPE Food Bank are essential to building stronger communities. They share our values and are committed to improving the health and well-being of seniors, veterans and the disabled struggling with hunger.” said Michael Lindsey, Director Walmart Public Affairs. “Through this donation, we are hopeful that those less fortunate in central Arkansas will benefit from the additional nutrition provided though these food boxes.
Project HOPE Food Bank is distributing an average of 80k pounds a month to area pantries, children’s homes and feeding programs, charity kitchens, homeless shelters and school backpack programs. This is accomplished with a volunteer workforce, including our Executive Director, Ted Thompson and Inventory Specialist, Charles Hood. Assets including our donated warehouse and equipment acquired through grants allow the food bank to make a significant impact throughout the communities we serve. The support of the Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program and our community empowers the food bank to be able to reach out and serve Arkansas communities, some ranked among the highest in the nation for food insecurity.
The Walmart Foundation’s State Giving Program supports organizations that create opportunities so people can live better, awarding grants that have a long-lasting, positive impact on communities across the U.S.

The Senior Emergency Food Box program utilizes agencies that see seniors struggling with food insecurity to identify those in need. Often these agencies are making home visits during recovery from an illness or accident, they see the bare cupboards and lack of resources available in these households. These agencies include cancer centers, senior centers, hospice agencies, disabled veterans’ organizations, crisis centers and local food pantries. With the assistance of these partners we are distributing close to one hundred boxes a month. The boxes are designed to provide a week’s food for a senior couple. The goal is to improve health and well-being, allowing time for seniors to recuperate from illness, accidents or even family crisis.
About Philanthropy at Walmart
By using our strengths to help others, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation create opportunities for people to live better every day. Walmart has stores in 28 countries, employing more than 2.3 million associates and doing business with thousands of suppliers who, in turn, employ millions of people. Through our philanthropy, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are helping people live better by accelerating upward job mobility and economic development for the retail workforce; addressing hunger and making healthier, more sustainably-grown food a reality; and building strong communities where we operate and inspiring our associates to give back. Whether it is helping to lead the fight against hunger in the United States with $2 billion in cash and in-kind donations or supporting Women’s Economic Empowerment through a series of grants totaling $10 million to the Women in Factories training program in Bangladesh, China, India and Central America, Walmart and the Walmart Foundation are not only working to tackle key social issues, we are also collaborating with others to inspire solutions for long-lasting systemic change.
